My name Is Daniel Gregovsky. I was a blonde, 5'9", American, 35 year old, coal miner living in Poland. I would be the guy who would plant the explosives in the wall and blow them up. My life changed forever one day. The media said it was a methane explosion but I can say different. I saw and experienced what actually happened that fateful fall afternoon.
Sept. 18th 2009, Wujek Slask mine, Poland
My alarm woke me up. I looked over; It was five o'clock and it was time to get ready to go in the mines. I got out of my bed and went over to the bathroom. I freshened myself up and made breakfast. I eat it, grabbed my hard hat and went out the door. I walked over to the enterance as it was only down the dirt road from my house. I got their and met Joseph down there.
"Hey Dan!" he called and waved as he saw me.
"Good morning Joseph." I said as I walked out to him. Me and him were the only two that were from America and the rest were Polish. He was a brown haired, 5'8", 33 year old man. "Back down to the mines once again."
"It seems like hard work at first but the liquor seems to dull the pain." he said as we chuckled a bit. We have been here for five years now when we came together.
"Two more weeks 'til I can see my folks again." I said as we started to walk toward the shaft.
"Cannot wait." he replied. We got to the shaft and waited until 5:30 when our shift started.
"Well looks like it's our turn." I said as the night shift came up in the lift. There were 43 people on the night shift and 45 on in the day shift.
"Going down to the darkness." Joseph said as we got on the lift. I had a shiver down my spine as if this were the last time I would ever see the surface. I can't be thinking like that though; being pessimistic while in a mine full of combustible material thousands of feet underground was not the best idea. When we got to the bottom and got on a small tram with the others to go to the far end of the mine. I tried staying positive by talking with Joseph but I couldn't shake the feeling of impending doom. I just ignored it as we got to our stop. We got off and I went over to the map to see what I needed to blow up next. I saw the marked spot and went over to the explosives box. I got them out and walked along to the designated wall and started drilling where I calculated where they should go. When I was done I placed the sticks of dynamite and detcord in the holes and made sure no one was aroud. I got to the safe zone got the megaphone.
"All clear!" I shouted and waited there was no response so I shouted "Fire in the hole!" and sent the blast alarm off. It was then followed by a large explosion but it was followed by a flame. I waited for the dust to clear before moving into the area. I did not expect to find this. It had blown the wall but there was a small opening as well. That could only mean we found a pocket Luckily I had burned all the gas away in the explosion. I grabbed my flashlight and looked inside. I could not believe my eyes I saw what was causing it. There was a body of some kind in there. The walls were also luminous so I turned off my flashlight and I could still see in there. Rozskała, the Polish people called the rock. I was amazed and I had to investigate. I slipped in and stood up. The body seemed to be missing its head so I was a little disturbed by this. It looked like it had wings and its hide was scaly. Instantly I thought dragon but I quickly dismissed that because they were not real. I walked up and touched the walls and they seemed to glow even more when I did. But then all the luminous rock just turned to dust and started filling the room. The walls now were dark but it lost a foot in thickness. I got out back into the cave and saw the dust was filling the air as well. My lungs started to burn so I grabbed a cloth and put it over my face. The glowing dust was lighting up the mine and I could see it was bothering other people as well. Just then my skin started to burn as well. All of a sudden as the green dust filled the entire cave it exploded causing a massive cave in. The heat from the blast burnt my skin an the pressure wave broke all the bones in my body. I should have been dead but I was still conscience and watched as all the rocks fell around me I could hear the screams of agony. I noticed that even though my skin had been burnt to a crisp it was all golden except for my stomach which was red. I was completely numb but I could see that my body was shifting on its own and I could see what I thought were blisters forming on my skin. I could not move one muscle and I watched in horro as the blisters covered my body and then started solidifying to what appeared to be scales. Scales? How could scales be forming on my as I though all my skin was dead. I tried shutting my eyes but the wouldn't close. I couldn't even move my eyes! I saw as my legs reformed and looked longer. I also saw all the red on my body was becoming rectangular scales instead of the smaller ones on the rest of me. I also saw another appendage grow out of the base of my spine also covered in scales. My neck also started to move and then I couldn't see the rest of myself anymore as my head moved off of a rock. I then saw my mouth grow outwards in a muzzle and that is when I blacked out.
